Mr. John Clayton Trammell, age 92, of Dahlonega, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016 at his residence following a period of declining health. Born in Auraria, Georgia on April 27, 1924 to parents Johnny and Bertie Lowe Trammell, Clayton had lived most of his life in Lumpkin County. He was retired from Lockheed Corporation as an aircraft mechanic following his 20 year service to his country where he served with the Mighty Eighth of the U.S. Air Force where he served in WWII and Korean War. He was a member of Dahlonega United Methodist Church and a member of Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge #38 for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, Clayton was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mamie Lee Duff Trammell, brother; Hubert Trammell, great-grandson; Cody Hudgins and step-mother, Isabel Trammell. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law; Regina and James Plunkett, Columbia, SC, Janie and Tom McCoy, Mt. Airy, GA; Rita and Herdus Arrington, Demorest, GA, brother and sister-in-law; Charles and Betty Trammell, sisters; Bobbie Whelchel, Johnnie Mae Hutchesonand Christine Waters, all of Dawsonville, GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Kevin Hudgins (Shanda), Philadelphia, PA, Bobby Popham, Cornelia, GA, Jenna Arrington, Alto, GA, great-grandchildren; Brooke, Brady and Blake Hudgins, Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by friend, Sue O’Hanlon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 in the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home with Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Clifford Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 11th from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
