Charles (Charlie) Elton Williams

Obituary Date: Sunday, November 6, 2016

Charles (Charlie) Elton Williams of Buford, Georgia and Belmopan, Belize passed away November 6th. Charlie, 68 years old at the time of his death, had been battling leukemia. Charlie was born April 7th, 1948 in Clay County, Georgia to Ruby and Charlie Williams of Bluffton, Georgia. Charlie's sense of adventure and exploration began in his early years on the family farm. Upon graduation from Clay County High School, Charlie attended Auburn University completing his degree in engineering. While attending Auburn, he married his high school sweetheart Judy Best. Married for 47 years Charlie and Judy were the most incredible example of togetherness. Their relationship with one another defined them individually. Most mornings started with Charlie and Judy having quiet times of bible study and prayer. These quiet times were foundational in the ways they prayed for and interacted with everyone in their lives.

During Charlie's early career as an engineer in Kingsport, Tennessee, Charlie and Judy welcomed the birth of their sons Michael and David. While in Kingsport, Charlie and Judy became involved in various local and international ministries. In 1987, Charlie and his family moved to Belize, Central America to serve in full time ministry with Global Outreach Vocational School for disadvantaged boys. In 1990, Charlie and Judy founded Belize Christian Ministries that served the people of Belize in many ways. In 1993, Charlie and Judy founded Belize Christian Academy, a private K-12 school in Belmopan. Belize Christian Academy became the main focus of Charlie and Judy's ministry and continues to be so today. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Charlie Jackson Williams and Ruby Averitt Williams.

Charlie is survived by his wife Judy Lynn Best Williams, his son Michael Thomas Williams and wife Jennifer, son David Jackson Williams, and grandsons Wren Jackson Williams and Graham Charles Williams, as well as a large extended family on both the Williams and Best sides.

Charlie is also survived by the numerous people that saw him as a brother or father figure. Charlie's family truly appreciates the outpouring of love through calls and messages that we have received during this difficult time. It is a testament to the impact that Charlie had on this world.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 10th, 2016 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Buford, Georgia. In leu of flowers the family is requesting that donations me made in memory of Charlie Williams for Belize Christian Academy through
