Gary Burghardt Gray

Gary Burghardt Gray, age 80, of Dahlonega, GA passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2016.

Gary was born on March 27, 1936 in Cleveland, OH; moving to Georgia in 1969 and finally to Dahlonega after retiring in 2001.  He was an active member of Dahlonega Baptist Church.  He had a passion for music and played the piano, clarinet, harmonica and bass guitar. His love of history and teaching was very evident in his role as “Major Minor” at the Consolidated Gold Mine.

Gary was the son of the late Glendon Percival and Mary Helen Burghardt Gray.  He is also preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Shupp.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janice Kay Gray; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Sherrie Gray, Dahlonega, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Tony Hope, Dawsonville, GA; grandchildren, Garrett Gray and Kayla Gray.  Numerous other relatives also survive.

Visitation will be held at Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega, GA on Friday November 11, 2016 from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.

A memorial service for Gary is scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday November 12, 2016 at Dahlonega Baptist Church.

Rev. Bill Hutcheson will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Dahlonega Baptist Church on Saturday November 12, 2016 from 12:30 PM to 1 PM and again following the service in the church fellowship hall.
