Dr. Gary Paul Merritt, 62, of Gainesville, passed away October 12, 2016.
Born in Fort Collins, Colorado. Dr. Merritt had lived in Hall County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Allen and Marguerite Merritt. Dr. Merritt was a graduate of Gainesville High School and the University of Louisville School Of Dentistry. His practice in Gainesville was Dr. Gary P. Merritt, DMD. Dr. Merritt also served in the United States Army Reserves.
Dr. Merritt cared for his patients very much, and they loved him for it. He also loved fly fishing and being on the river.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Sam Greavu, Athens; step-son, Shane Whelchel, Gainesville; grandchildren, Garrison Greavu, Athens and Alexis Whelchel, Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, John and Katey Merritt, Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters, Kathy Merritt, Gainesville; Millie Merritt, Mountain Home, Arkansas; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Marie Merritt, Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Randy Jarrard, Flowery Branch; sister-in-law, Linda Merritt, Amelia Island, Florida, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Dr. Merritt is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Allen Merritt.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday October 18, 2016 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday October 17, 2016 from 6-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals/ ASPCA.org in memory of Dr. Merritt
