Mr. Thomas Edward (Ed) Garner, age 92, of Gainesville passed away into the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center – Gainesville, surrounded by family.
Funeral Services with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Chicopee Baptist Church with entombment following at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Scott Wilson and Rev. Dick Shorr will officiate. The family will receive friends 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home
A lifelong resident of Hall County, and a member of Chicopee Baptist Church. He had previously been a member of Westside Baptist Church where he served for many years. Mr. Garner is preceded in death by his parents, George T. Garner and Nora Kemp Garner Bolden; Myrtie Lee Martin Garner, first wife of 28 years and Idelle Smith Wiley Garner, second wife of 38 years; stepson, Johnnie Wiley; son-in-law, Michael Morgan; and brother, Harold Garner. He retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Company and was also in the rental and property management business for numerous years. He enjoyed his retired life traveling 49 of the 50 states of the USA with The Happy Trails Traveling Club. Alaska was the only one he missed. He proudly served his country in World War II, where he was stationed in India from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Garner enjoyed getting to know everyone he came in contact with and spending time with his family. His smile was sure to light up any room.
Mr. Garner is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Larry & Debbie Garner of Flowery Branch; daughter, Ann Morgan of Woodstock; daughter& son-in-law, Donna & Donnie Dixon of Gainesville;step-daughter & son-in-law, Sandra & Richard Hulsey of Demorest; grandchildren, Britten Odell, Ben Odell, Joshua Dixon, Jamie Lind, Chris Garner, and Jared Dixon; step-grandchildren, Darrell Wiley, Vickie Willis, Kristi Brantley and Derek Hulsey; brother, Paul Garner; sister, Claudine Martin; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; and numerous nieces & nephews.
