Noel Douglas Gibbs, age 60, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away at his home on October 3, 2016. Doug was born June 19, 1956 in Gainesville, Georgia to J.D (Doug) and Helen Gibbs.
Doug married the former Riva Benz on June 14, 1985 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. She survives him along with his sons Zachary Gibbs (Whitney) of Greenwood, Captain Jason Gibbs (Julianna) of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo, and Jefferson Gibbs of Greenwood. He is also survived by his mother Helen Gibbs, Gainesville, sister, Vickie White and husband Rich, Gainesville, and brother, Scott Gibbs and wife Jennifer of Gainesville, his mother in law Maggie Benz of Greenwood and three nephews, Davis White, Russell White, and David Gibbs. He was preceded in death by his father.
Doug was a proud 14 year veteran of the U.S. Army serving as an intelligence specialist in many parts of the world. To have known Doug was to know that he was a true patriot! Doug loved Gainesville High School and used his Red Elephant football uniform number 53 throughout his life. He received an Associates Degree in computers from Ivy Tech and worked as a program tester at Eli Lilly and Company. Doug was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, and a skilled crossword and jigsaw puzzle solver.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in Gainesville, Ga., that will of course include the Varsity! The family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Johnson County Humane Society, 3827 Graham Road, Franklin, In. 46131. Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.
