J.L. McFarland

J.L. (Larry) McFarland, age 69 of Gillsville, passed away on Saturday October 1, 2016 at his home surrounded by family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Memorial park North Riverside Chapel on Monday, October 03, 2016 from 5-7 pm.  Funeral Service will be held at the Chapel in Memorial Park North on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 1pm with Reverend Lamar Purcell of Bethany Baptist Church officiating.  Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery.

J.L. was born in Gainesville to Clayton and Mary Dean McFarland on March 17, 1947.  He went to high school at Gainesville High and graduated in 1965.  He was in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War.  He went to earn multiple degrees from The University of Central Florida.  He worked in the construction industry for over 45 years.  He owned his own construction company and was a project manager for many projects in the Florida and Georgia region. He was included in the “Who’s Who in Georgia” in 1973. He enjoyed golf, watching UGA football and spending time with his family.

J.L. was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Clayton McFarland; mother, Mary Dean McFarland; father-in-law, Harold Mauseth; mother-in-law, Phyllis Mauseth; and brother-in-law, Larry Fuller.

J.L. is survived by his wife, Paulette Kaye McFarland of Gillsville; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Dea McFarland; grandchildren, Kaleigh and Matthew McFarland of Braselton; siblings, Nita Fuller of Gainesville, Norma and Jim Gibbons of Manassas, VA, and J.C. and Sandy McFarland of Gainesville; brothers and sister-in-laws Jim and Donna Mauseth of Owatonna, MN, Steve and Becky Mauseth of Austin, MN, Stuart and Judy Mauseth of Ankeny, IA, and Jason and Robin Mauseth of Lincoln, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
