Byron Joseph (Choppy) Bourgeois Jr

Mr. Byron Joseph (Choppy) Bourgeois, Jr., age 79 of Dahlonega passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a courageous battle with A.M.L.

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Byron was born to parents Byron Joseph, Sr. and Jessie Brinkley Bourgeois on June 20, 1937. He retired from Abbott Laboratories as a pharmaceutical sales manager in 1999 after 34 years of service and had lived in Dahlonega since 2007. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Byron was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Dale Bourgeois, and first wife Joan. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Hottell Bourgeois, children; Robert Byron Bourgeois, Atlanta, Michael John (Andrea) Bourgeois, Alpharetta, Ashley Bourgeois (John Michael) Harbin, Dahlonega, sister; Judith Bourgeois Petrie, Baton Rouge, LA, sister-in-law; Barbara Bourgeois, Metairie, LA, grandchildren; Madelyn Burk Bourgeois, Michael Dillon Bourgeois and Reid Joseph Bourgeois, all of Alpharetta.

Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at St. Luke Catholic Church. Father John Matejek and Father Neil Dhabliwala will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park. A reception will follow at Achasta Clubhouse. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 3rd from 6 – 9 p.m. at Dahlonega Funeral Home.
