William "Billy" Meek

Obituary Date: Saturday, September 24, 2016

The Meek family mourns the loss of William "Billy" Meek, who lost his life suddenly this past Saturday (September 24, 2016) in a tragic accident while performing an extreme sport in North Carolina mountains.  Billy had a great passion for pushing the boundaries in all areas of life from outdoor extreme sports to a long successful wrestling career with Pope High School and its youth feeder program.

Billy was a cornerstone of the Pope High School wrestling program.  He helped Pope High School achieve three traditional state and two team dual state titles. Individually Billy was a three time state placer with a third place finish as a freshman (at Cass High School), runner-up as a junior, and a State championship in his senior year for Pope.  While a member of Pope's junior wrestling program, Billy won five youth state titles, along with five state titles in wrestling's Olympic styles Freestyle and Greco Roman. In national wrestling competitions, Billy placed in 26 separate events including earning All-American titles at the USAW National championships and NHSCA Nationals and AAU Nationals.

Billy will be remembered for being a great son, a passionate athlete and a great friend to many.  He seemed to never meet a stranger as he won people over with his infectious smile, compassionate manner and free spirit.

Billy is survived by his parents, Hugh and Barbara Meek; brother, Brad; grandparents, Edmond and Maryann Zorio; uncles, Steven Zorio, his wife, Natalie and son, Skyler and uncle, Brent Meek and his wife, Alisha; and many aunts uncles and cousins in Georgia and New York.  His grandfather, Hugh E. Meek, Jr. predeceased him.

A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at 12:45 pm on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Victory Church in Acworth, GA.  Scattering of the ashes will follow at 3:00 pm at the City Cemetery in Marietta, GA.
