The glow of humanity slightly dimmed as Curtis Vorda, our beloved son, brother, friend, musical visionary, and gentle soul, of Athens, GA passed away Friday, September 23rd, 2016.
He left this world while being held by two of his closest loved ones. He is survived by his mother and father, Sevgi Vorda and Brian Vorda, sister, Jane Dinzole, and brothers, John Wilcock, Chris Wilcock, and Ryan Vorda.
Born in Corpus Christi, Texas and raised in Houston, Vorda arrived in his permanent home of Athens, GA in the early 2000’s. He shared countless wonderful tales from his adventures across the country as a young man and captured many of these experiences in the lyrics of his songs. As a talented craftsmen and builder, he helped build music studios in Athens while building bonds with the people who would adopt him into the local music community where he made an indelible mark. Whether singing his heart out on stage for amazed audiences or sharing a deep conversation with friends, Curtis maintained a singular focus on and an intimate connection with the well-being of humanity and the Earth. When in his presence, all preconceptions of reality were shed. Thoughts of the past and future evaporated. Awareness of the self-dissolved. All that remained was the bright light of his welcoming and understanding soul. He had an uncanny ability to attain that state of pure being every time he shared his music with an audience or his philosophical musings with his friends. The joy, imagination, and care that he brought to the world cannot be overstated. A close examination of his lyrics reveals his desire to heal, inspire, and reflect upon this existence. He truly lived a life less ordinary.
