Alan Dale Robinson, more widely and affectionately known by all as Butch, or possibly by one of his many other nicknames: Big Time, Charlie, or Big Time Charlie, departed this earth on the same date that so many years ago, his father, Gaines Robinson, came into this world, September 25th. It is in some ways fitting that Butch and his father would share this date, as Butch and his father shared many characteristics. Like his father, Butch was a very quiet man, so those who did not know him well might be unfamiliar with what a kind and caring man laid beneath the quiet exterior. Most people also don't know, because Butch did not want credit or praise for his actions, that Butch was an altruistic giver to those in need. He gave to people in the same quiet and unassuming nature that he embodied. If you asked anybody in his family, they would tell you that Butch was a very family oriented man. Butch loved his wife of 45 years, Dianne, so much that before he began his battle with Cancer, the two had never spent the night apart. Butch was a wonderful father to their daughter and son in law, and he loved his grandsons with what can only be described as a tangible love to anybody who saw them together.
To remember Butch only as a kind, caring, and generous man would be a disservice to his memory. Butch was a man comprised of many more talents and virtues, which allow him the honor and distinction of being set apart from ordinary men.
Not every man in life is given a special gift or talent, and even less men utilize the gifts bestowed upon them. However, Butch was no such man; he was an extraordinary Craftsman and Master Carpenter. Butch worked hard to put his skills to great use, making a living building beautiful homes. Some of the finest homes in North Georgia can be credited to Butch's remarkable craftsmanship and building abilities. By utilizing his ingenuity and aptitude for constructing beautiful things, Butch furthered his career as a craftsman by becoming one of the finest furniture builders in all of Georgia. If you were lucky enough to be the recipient of any of his furniture, you would know that each hand constructed piece was made with such expertise that nails were never required. Butch proudly fashioned his pieces the way a real craftsman does, with mortise and tenon. If you were to look upon any piece that Butch made, big or small, even the untrained eye would be able to see the love and artistry that made his pieces so rare and exquisite. Luckily for us, Butch's legacy will live on through his family and all of his beautiful creations.
"Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God."

It is our hope that Butch's life will inspire each of you to use your gifts to make the world not only better, but more beautiful as well, just the way he did.
