Sylvia Yvonne Gore

Sylvia Yvonne Gore, age 75, of Gainesville passed away Thursday, Sep 22, 2016 at her home. 

Mrs. Gore was born to the late Melvin and Sylvia Jacobs of Camp Hill, PA.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.  Yvonne graduated from Gettysburg College with a BA in English and she taught for two years as an elementary school teacher.  In college, she was captain of the cheerleading team and was honored as the Homecoming Queen.

            Yvonne was an avid gardener and tennis player.  As a teen, Yvonne, along with her brother Melvin, was a junior ice skating champion with the Hershey Skating Club.  In later years, she directed her energies toward volunteer work serving as Director to the Gainesville Hall Community Food Pantry.  She also served as a regular Meals on Wheels volunteer for the past 16 years and was recently honored as volunteer of the year for these efforts.

            Mrs. Gore is survived by her husband King of 54 years; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Natalie Gore of Alpharetta, GA and Brian and Jennifer Gore of Washington, DC; four grandchildren: Marissa and Siena, Lilly and Tommy; and brother Melvin Jacobs of the Villages, FL.

            Yvonne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and community member that brought love and happiness with her always.  She was a bed rock of life and support for those who knew her and will be fondly remembered by all.

Funeral services will be at 11AM, Tuesday Sep 27, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, GA with a reception to follow in Swetenburg Hall.  The reverend Lee Koontz will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in the name of Yvonne can be made to the Gainesville Hall Community Food Pantry at 615 Oak St. in Gainesville, GA.
