Mrs. Doris Ann Freeman, age 87, of Commerce, GA died Friday, September 23, 2016 at Brighter Mornings. Mrs. Freeman was born in Commerce to the late Charles Alvin and Beatrice Hunt Hooper on August 26, 1929. She grew up in Commerce and graduated from Commerce High School. Afterwards, she attended Draughn’s Business School. In 1954 Doris, and her husband, Quentin, who preceded her in death in 2005, moved away from Commerce, but returned in 1960. She was a member of Apple Valley Baptist Church, where she also participated in the Women’s Missionary Society. She was employed by the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Georgia from 1960-1969. She retired from North Georgia College, Dahlonega where she was employed from 1970-1973. Doris loved life and will be missed by many.
Mrs. Freeman is survived by one daughter, Lavonda Freeman Cheek and son-in-law, Mike of Watkinsville.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Monday, September 26 at Apple Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Clarence Cannon and Rev. Ray Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to charity of choice.
