Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Sammy Leon Harp, age 70, of Winder, GA, who passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Harp was born in Cedartown, Georgia, a son to the late Lee and Maebelle Coley Harp. Mr. Harp was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and was a retired heavy equipment operator. Mr. Harp loved to hunt and fish and get together with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harp was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Nieto and his nephew, Phillip Chitwood.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Martha Elrod Harp of Winder; daughters and son in laws, Nannette and Jeff Potts of Cartersville, Connie and Michael Stephens of Adairsville, son and daughter in law, Sam and Kim Harp of Jefferson; brother Wayne Harp of Taylorsville, GA; nine grandchildren, Corey Scoggins, Courtney (Bryan) Crawford, Mathew (Christie) Barnwell, Allie Stephens, Katie Stephens, Alyssa Stephens, Adreanna Harp, Samuel Harp and Bethany Harp; 4 great grandchildren, Dawson Robertson, Aleah Robertson, Thea Crawford and Kade Barnwell. Several special nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Gooch officiating. The burial will follow in the Evans Memory Gardens with Corey Scoggins, Randy Patton, Michael Stephens, Wayne Harp Jr., Brian Woodbury and Bailey Patton honored as pallbearers.
The visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5 – 8 PM at Evans Funeral Home.
