Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Cecil Hobson Venable, age 82 of Jefferson, Georgia who passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 following an extended illness. Mr. Venable was born February 23, 1934 and was a life-long resident of Jefferson, Georgia. He graduated from Jefferson High School and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United State Army where he served in Germany guarding the Berlin Wall during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Venable began his career as a lineman with Jackson EMC in 1951. He left in 1969 after working several years as a line foreman. He then continued his electrical career with Pike Electric until his retirement.
Mr. Venable was the son of the late Okie Venable and Lottie (Wade) Venable. He was preceded in death by his brothers, S/SGT Okie Venable, Jr., Jefferson, Georgia. George Venable, Athens, Georgia, sister Mildred Murphy, Gainesville, Georgia, sister Erene Dell Venable, Jefferson, Georgia, brother-in-law Charles Bowden, Athens, Georgia, sister-in-law Frances Venable, Athens, Georgia and niece Jolynn Venable Farley, Athens, Georgia.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Jo Bowden of Athens, Georgia, brother-in-law Radford Murphy of Gainesville, Georgia and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 2, 2016 in Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson, Georgia with Pastor Ross Wheeler and Joel Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Evans Funeral Home in Jefferson. Flowers are welcome or memorials in memory of Mr. Venable may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 4659 Brockton Road, Jefferson, Georgia 30549.
