Michael White, “Mike” passed away on August 25, 2016. A native Atlantan, he grew up in the West End area of Atlanta and attended West Fulton High School. Mike had many lifelong friends from his days at West Fulton and was still a regular attendee at reunions and monthly breakfast “get togethers” of “The Owl Club.” Mike served in the United States Air Force at Rhein Main AFB in Frankfurt, Germany, where he met his wife of 55 years, Northild. Upon returning to Atlanta in 1961 he became a proud member of the Atlanta Police department as a motorcycle patrol officer. He then went on to work at the City Traffic Court of Atlanta during the day, as well as numerous extra jobs in every free moment, such as security at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta and a bouncer at Aunt Fanny’s Cabin while he was attending classes at John Marshall Law School. He passed the bar in 1972 and went on to serve the city of Atlanta as a prosecuting attorney. After a thirty year career with the city he retired and enjoyed decades of rural life at the foot of Coal Mountain in Cumming, GA.
From tractor parades to trail rides and wagon trains, Mike was a recognized character who always had a joke to tell. He was known for doing people favors, never asking for anything in return, and loved to bestow gifts for no reason. He enjoyed hunting for “treasures” with his wife at flea markets and antique stores, as well as carpentry projects and keeping the grounds of his property mowed and neat. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, a doting father and grandfather until the end.
He is survived by his wife, Northild Sopp White; daughters, Lisa White Layman and Celia White Kennedy; grandchildren, Michael Scott Muldoon and Diana Sam Kennedy.
