Mr. Lawrence F. “Buck” Story, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Erline Helmly Story, died on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Ashton Senior Living, Gainesville, Georgia.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Harlem United Methodist Church with Rev. John Moore and Rev. Roger Vest officiating.
A native of Leah, Georgia, Mr. Story was the owner of Story’s Standard Service Station in Harlem and a buyer for Tracy-Luckey Pecan Company for many years. He and his wife also owned Carrousel Flowers and Gifts.
Mr. Story served in the United States Navy during WWII. He served as a Columbia County Commissioner for over 10 years and was a Harlem volunteer firefighter for more than 25 years. He was the Chair Emeritus of the Democratic Party of Columbia County. Mr. Story was a member of Harlem United Methodist Church and chaired the Board of Trustees of White Oak Campground for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Robert F. Story (Stephen T. Hartzburgh), Honorable Richard W. Story (Nancy Duffey Story); one daughter, Angela Story Gray ( Dr. James B. Gray); five
grandchildren, Laura Story Droms (Matthew J. Droms), Elizabeth R. Story, Victoria Gray Lambo (Lawrence M. Lambo), William R. Story and J. Blane Gray; two great grandchildren, Caroline Susanna Droms and Jacob Matthew Droms; and a brother-in-law, Angus Ott.
Mr. Story was preceded in death by his parents, Rad and Julia Story; a sister, Vera Story Ott.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
