Imogene Carder Shelnut, age 84, of Dahlonega and Gainesville, GA, passed away peacefully August 18, 2016.
Mrs. Shelnut was born in Suches, GA, on May 22, 1932, the daughter of the late James Marion and Eleanor Magnolia Bridges Carder of Suches and Gaddistown, GA.
Mrs. Shelnut attended public schools in Lumpkin County, GA. She was an employee of Wrigley’s, Inc. in Oakwood for many years before retiring in 1997.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dahlonega, GA.
She is survived by two daughters – Judy Kay Grizzle Jackson (husband Ralph Olin Jackson III) of Roswell, and Donna Jean Odom of Gainesville; two grandchildren – Jean Nicole Strahan (husband Corey Strahan) of Villa Rica and Olin Burke Jackson (wife Olga Jackson) of Woodstock, GA; and four great grandchildren – Carter and Cayden Strahan of Villa Rica and Alexander and Catherine Jackson of Woodstock; two sisters – Kathleen Acrey (husband Richard Acrey) and Janie Kemp of Murrayville, GA; two brothers – Joseph Conley Carder (wife Dean Carder) of Gainesville and Luke Carder (wife Martha Carder) of Dahlonega.
Mrs. Shelnut was preceded in death by her son, James Larry Grizzle of Dahlonega, GA; her parents, James Marion and Eleanor Magnolia Bridges Carder of Suches and Dahlonega, GA; her stepmother Viola Collins Carder of Dahlonega, GA; and brothers, James M. Carder, Jr. of Dallas, TX and Irving Ishmael Carder of Suches, GA.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hembree Senior Care Center of Roswell, GA for so lovingly caring for Imogene during the past few years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shelnut are scheduled for 2 PM Sunday August 21, 2016 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, GA.
Don Carder, Olin Jackson and Rev. Allen Swafford will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Gainesville, GA.
The family will receive visitors at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega, GA on Saturday August 20, 2016 from 6 PM to 8 PM and again on Sunday August 21, 2016 from 1 PM until time of service.
