Funeral services for Mina Sue Strickland Merrick, age 89 of Clarkesville will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:30 AM at the Clarkesville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Merrick passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Rev. Brian Butler and Rev. Phil DeMore will officiate the services. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Saturday from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wildwood, Florida.
Born in Alachua, Florida on March 2, 1927, Mina Sue was the daughter of the late Frank Cellon Strickland, Sr. and Zenobia Rivers Strickland. Mina Sue was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church, where she was in the Good News Sunday School class. She sang in the Chancel Choir as a soprano, and was a founding member of the Morning Joy UMW Circle. As a homemaker she was able to donate of her time and love towards family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Merrick is preceded in death by brothers Frank Cellon Strickland, Jr and Joe Rivers Strickland Sr.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, William “Bill” Grant Merrick of Clarkesville, daughters Andrea Merrick Sackett (Ralph) of Lawrenceville and Heather Merrick Hendricks (Charlie) of Metter, grandsons Benjamin Merrick Forney, Grant Gilbert Hendricks and Andrew George Hendricks, granddaughter Angela Rochelle Sackett, great grandchildren Rachel Forney and William Forney, and numerous nieces and nephews.
