Joseph Ray McKenzie

Joseph Ray McKenzie, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at the age of 67. 

He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  He received a B.A. in business from Georgia State University in 1971.  He was retired from a 41 year career with the Georgia Power Company.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Martha Nichols McKenzie, daughters, Kimberly McKenzie Minicozzi and her husband Joe of Loganville, Ga;  Kristy McKenzie Valdez and her husband Christian of Savannah, Ga; grandchildren Ella Minicozzi, Cole Valdez, and Caden Valdez; brother Robert (Diana) McKenzie, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny and Virby McKenzie.

Family was always first to Joe.  He was a devoted husband, incredible father, and the world’s best Pops to his grandchildren.  Joe and Martha enjoyed traveling and golfing together. He was an avid golfer, reader and UGA fan.  He provided an amazing life for his family and was always involved in his daughters’ lives.  Nothing made him happier than having his entire family together.  His grandchildren were the sunshine of his life.

The family will receive visitors at the Dahlonega Funeral Home Friday, August 19 from 7-9p.m.  A service celebrating his life will be held at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 20 at 10:30 a.m. with a reception afterwards at Achasta Golf Club, Dahlonega, Georgia.
