Dock Lawrence, age 68 of the Hollingsworth Community in Alto, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016.
Born in Baldwin, Georgia on June 7, 1948, he was a son of the late James Bush and Dora Ausburn Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence was a member and former pastor of New Birth Baptist Church. He was a self-employed carpenter who actually constructed New Birth Baptist Church and many other structures over the years. He enjoyed cooking, gardening and woodworking in his spare time. He also was employed as a technician with LP Gas Service for many years and was a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hannah Lawrence; sister, Ruby Ausburn Cochran; brothers, James, Johnny, Howard “Grey”, Pete and Wayne Lawrence, and Rudolph Ausburn.
Surviving are wife of 47 years, Lynn Lawrence of the Hollingsworth Community in Alto; children, Patty Pursley of Commerce, Darion Lawrence, Andy Lawrence and Kelley (William “Bill”) Forrester all of Alto; sisters, Latrelle Lawrence of Baldwin and Isabelle Gosnell of Colbert; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 2 pm on Monday, August 15, 2016 in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Elder Terrell Simmons and Pastor Wayne McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
