Dorothy Davis Born, age 98, of Turnerville, Georgia, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, following an extended illness.
Dorothy was born on May 17, 1918, in Lakemont, Georgia, to the late Arnold and Zoie Smith Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Louis Born, Sr.; son, Charles Louis Born, Jr.; two brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Born attended Lakemont Consolidated High School graduating with First Honors. After graduating from Young Harris College, she taught school in Rabun County for two years. She then devoted herself to being a wife, mother, grandmother, and up to the point of being a great-great-grandmother.
Mrs. Born was a member and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Turnerville. She was involved in all church related organizations and especially the Women’s Missionary Union. She served as the Associational WMU President for two years and as President of Turnerville Homemakers for 14 years.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law: Susan Born Smith and Frederick, Jefferson, GA; son: John Davis Born, Knoxville, TN; sister: Jean Bragg, Marietta, GA; six grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Friday, August 12, 2016, at the funeral home.
