Sara Ruth Baumann of Toccoa, GA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. She was 101 years old.
A daughter of the late John and Bertha Moffitt, she was born in Franklin, NC on April 23, 1915, where she met her first husband, Thomas Hoyle Stikeleather. They raised their 3 daughters in Charlotte, NC; Sylvia Ramsey (Charles), Myrna Craft (Wayne) and Donna Owens (Henry). Donna died on December 15, 2015 of cancer. Thomas died of cancer and heart failure in 1980.
In the early sixties, Sara moved to Toccoa, GA to care for her elderly parents, John and Bertha Blaine Moffitt, who were in ill health. Sara was one of seven siblings, Grace Moffitt Dickerson (Dewey), Donald Moffitt, Floyd Moffitt, Mary Moffitt Hitt (Dan), Robert Moffitt, and Maxwell Moffitt. After returning to Toccoa to care for her parents, Sara enrolled in the nursing program at Clarksville Technical College in Clarksville, Ga. She was 55 years old. She received her degree as an LPN and was employed for the next 13 years at Stephens County Hospital as medications nurse. She loved her job and all those she worked with. Before moving to Toccoa, she had a successful career in the advertising department at The Charlotte Observer.
Sara was active in the Toccoa chapter of Eastern Star for many years along with her husband, George, and made many lifelong friends. She loved her pastor, Rev. David Ritcey and her church. She had looked so forward to seeing the new addition to the church, but never made it.
Previous to her death, Sara had spent 10 months in Dallas, TX with her daughter, Myrna. She returned to Nashville, (old Hickory) on July 19, 2016 to be with her daughter, Sylvia. She was hospitalized two weeks later at Summit Medical Center for a mild heart attack. She was discharged on Tuesday evening, August 2 and she passed away peacefully at 11 am on Wednesday morning, August 3rd, 2016, with her family around her bed.
Sara married Rev. George Baumann, a long time family friend of many years in 1976. They were married for 3 wonderful years until his death August 3, 1979. He was the love of her life. George's children are, Donald of Wharton, NJ, Richard of Nutley, NJ, Raymond of Hazelwood, MO, and Janice Smith (Robert) of Chattanooga, TN. Sara loved George's children and his grandchildren very much.
Survivors include her daughters, Sylvia and Charles Ramsey of Old Hickory and Myrna Craft of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Stephen Ramsey, Cynthia Ramsey Moore , Kimberly Ramsey Dunn (Brian), Tammera Craft Gish (Robert) , Lisa Craft Robertson (Monty) , Brent Craft died in December , 2012, Cory Owens (Christina) and Scott Owens. She leaves fourteen great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Moore , Laura Moore , Carly Ramsey , Andy Ramsey, Ryan Craft ( Samantha), Lauren Gish Bodnor, Erin Gish , Monty Robertson III , Wesley Robertson , Tommy Robertson , MaKenna Owens and Addison Owens , Rachel and Nichole Owens , three great- great grandchildren, Ava McCannless , (Jacqueline and Jack), Selah Bodnor (Lauren and Daniel) and Harper Gish(Ryan and Samantha) , many nieces and nephews, Maridann Pittard , Scott Watson , Mary Katherine and Jan Watson, Jan Still (Jay) , Riley Dickerson and Betty Penland .
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 13, 2016, 11 O’clock AM. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. David Ritcey and Sara's son-in-law, Dr. Charles Ramsey of Old Hickory officiating. The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home at 10 AM until the service time. Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens beside her husband, George and her parents. Pallbearers will be, Cory Owens, David Gentry and Scott Watson.
