Janette Merk Johnson

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Janette Merk Johnson, age 91 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered into rest Saturday, August 6, 2016.  Mrs. Johnson was born in Commerce, Georgia a daughter of the late Hoyt and Alva Garrison Merk, graduated from Martin Institute, attended Athens Business School, and was a member of Galilee Christian Church.  Mrs. Johnson enjoyed a career spanning thirty-eight years as the Cashier for Jackson EMC in Jefferson, and at the time of her retirement was the longest tenured retiree.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson is preceded by her husband Thomas Johnson and a brother, Emory Merk.

Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Merk Brewer of Athens and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Minister Tom Plank officiating with burial to follow in Jackson Memorial Park, Commerce, Georgia.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, 11:00 – 2:00.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Galilee Christian Church, 2191 Galilee Church Road, Jefferson, Georgia  30549 or to the Walden’s Cove Personal Care Home, 1442 Johnson Mill Road, Jefferson, Georgia  30549.
