Joan Elizabeth Akin

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Akin, age 69, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Friday, July15, 2016. Mrs. Akin was born in Athens, Georgia, a daughter to the late E.L. Mark Fowler and the late Lucille France Love Fowler. Survivors include husband, Robert Lee Akin Sr. of Jefferson; son John Dustin Davis and his wife Tina of Winder, two step-children, Robert Akin and his wife Sandy of Nicholson and Melissa Akin-Exum and her husband Danny of Douglasville; Grandchildren, Caleb, Colby and Carson Davis of Winder, Tyler, Justin and Bradley Akin of Nicholson, Adam Exum and Holly Exum-Addison and her husband Jeffrey of Douglasville, Sean, David and Daniel Kirchens; and several great grandchildren and many special cousins and best friend, Gerry Smith of Carnesville, GA, also survive.

Mrs. Akin attended Jefferson High School and also worked as a secretary there under Dr. Ron Rooks. She worked on her family’s farm and Auto Sales Business. Joan and Robert operated a body shop for many years together. Other employment included Christian Financial Concepts and Barry King, Attorney at Law. Joan also enjoyed painting and writing poetry. She attended Academy Baptist Church. Many thanks go out to all her loving friends at church and especially to Eric and Betty Shelton.

The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Guellich and Rev. Eric Shelton officiating. The burial will follow in the Jackson Memorial Park with Tyler Akin, Justin Akin, Bradley Akin, Caleb Davis, Colby Davis and Adam Exum serving as Honorary Pallbearers. The visitation for Mrs. Akin will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 10 – 11 AM at Evans Funeral Home, prior to the service.
