Rev. William Chandler Lanier, Sr., age 91, of Clarkesville passed away July 4, 2016 at Hospice Atlanta.
Born in Macon, GA on July 6, 1924, Rev. Lanier was the son of the late Charles F. and Sarah Chandler Lanier. Rev. Lanier attained a BD from SBT Seminary and a MDiv from Columbia Theological Seminary. He was a retired minister and missionary with the Southern Baptist Convention for 29 1/2 years. He served as pastor of Wadley Baptist Church from 1954-1960. Rev. Lanier was a member and Bible teacher at. Clarkesville Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at Victory Home and he enjoyed golf, reading, traveling, and writing. Rev. Lanier was the author of "Yallid, Stable Boy of Bethlehem" and "Can These Bones Live?". He was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife Sallie May Cook Lanier of Clarkesville, son William C. "Bill" Lanier, Jr. and wife Joy of Jonesboro, daughter Sarah A. Lanier of Clarkesville, son Homer Cook Lanier and wife Miriam "Mimi" of Lebanon, daughter Sallie Lanier of Clarkesville, as well as four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 23, 2016 from the Clarkesville Baptist Church with Rev. Grady Walden officiating.
