Obituary Date: Wednesday, June 15, 2016

On June 15, 2016, Hammond Davis received a call. It was the sort of offer he couldn’t refuse, for an assignment to a place he had never been before, and, unlike his other military assignments, he would not be returning. His work on Earth is done. He has gone home to be with his Lord Jesus.

He was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School, a World War II veteran, recipient of numerous Department of War Awards, The Ronald Reagan National Republican Committee award and retired from the U.S. Army Defense Attache. He served in Germany; Asmara, Ethiopia, Africa; Homestead, Florida; Ankara, Turkey;
Mexico City, Mexico; Beirut, Lebanon; and Bangkok, Thailand. He was part of an elite group of men who had 24/7 communication with the President of the United States. After retirement, he and the love of his life, Martha Davis, settled in Gainesville, GA, and they continued to travel and he “tinkered” with his vast collection of antique cars. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Martha Leen Davis; his mother Ida Mae Presley; father, Ernest Davis; his step-father Golden C. Presley and his brother, Ronald Presley.

He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Reeves of Flowery Branch; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Mark of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Christi Tasker (Boyd), Keri Carpenter (Lance) and Kyle Stubbs (Abby); six
great-grandchildren;  Aunt, Doris Heard, and nephews and nieces. The family is so grateful for caregivers, Barbara Jackson, Ann Whitfield, and Doris Allison.
