Mrs. Opal Jones Ferguson, age 68 of Dawsonville (Lumpkin County) passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, Opal was born October 23, 1947 to parents Robert and Fannie Woody Jones. She was a homemaker and a Christian, a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Opal was preceded in death by brothers; Paul Wesley Jones, Robert Fulton Jones, Willard Jones and Wayne Jones, sisters; Lillian Cleghorn, Margaret Jones and Mamie Lois Ray. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jack Dean Ferguson, daughter and son-in-law; Kathy and Aubrey Pitchford, sister and brother-in-law; LaRue and Herbert Adams, brother and sister-in-law; Van and Delores Jones, grandsons; Kyle, Austin and Zackery Pitchford, all of Dawsonville. Also survived by many other extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016 in the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home with Rev. T.R. Myers and Rev. Corey Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the Auraria Church of Almighty God cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 11th from 5 until 9 p.m. and from 12 noon until the hour of service on Sunday.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Critical Care Unit at Ronnie Green Heart Center for their wonderful care during Opal’s illness, and a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, medical professionals and all other staff that assisted during this time.
