Lynda Carol (Grimes) Chambers, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Vernon Grimes, longtime resident of Gainesville, GA, suddenly gained her wings and joined her parents in her Heavenly Home while in Mount Pleasant, SC on Saturday, June 4th, 2016.
Born in New Orleans, LA, on September 17, 1956. Grew up in Gainesville, GA and attended River Bend School and North Hall High School before graduating from Johnson High School. A River Bend cheerleader from the time she could walk, she went on to become a star basketball player in high school. She served faithfully over the years in several church communities.
Lynda lived in Seymour, TN for many years, where she raised her daughter, Anna. There she was an active member of First Baptist Church Seymour and led the AWANA Sparks. A devout band mom who never missed a dance recital, musical, concert, school play, or band competition. After her daughter’s graduation she returned to Gainesville to care for her aging parents, and later moved to Mount Pleasant, SC, to continue her devoted care for them as they lived out their final days.
Beloved to all who knew her, her favorites were the children she taught and nannied over the years in both public and private schools and in many loving homes. “La La” was a favored and sought after caregiver who loved all of her children fiercely and with all her heart — a heart that was too big to continue beating here.
Lynda is survived by “her girls,” Anna (Chambers) Masson and her wife Elizabeth Owen, of Knoxville, TN; brother Tommy Grimes and wife Celia Grimes, of Mount Pleasant SC; sister Margaret Grimes Bear and partner Beth Parker, of Atlanta, GA; nieces Ashley Grimes Parker of Beaufort, SC; Amie Grimes of Mount Pleasant, SC; Bree Pattillo of Atlanta, GA; and her beloved friend, Buzzy.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 3:30pm at Riverbend Baptist Church with Rev. Maxey Ladd officiating. Ms. Chambers will lie in state from 2:30-3:30pm at the church. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.
