Mr. Vernon Alvus Smith, age 102 of 349 Hospital Drive, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Clary Care Center.
A son of the late Clarence and Nellie Unruh Smith, he was born July 23, 1913 in Pawnee Rock, Kansas, having lived most of his life in Toccoa. He was employed with R.G. Letourneau Company, later became WABCO where he was Plant Superintendent for 35 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, elder and choir member, a member of the Toccoa Lions Club for 35 years, President and member of Board of Directors for the Georgia Credit Union Association and a member of the Currahee Square Dancers. His favorite pastime was fishing and his love for the Georgia Bulldogs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Heine Smith in 2006 and by a son, Dr. Richard Smith.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Miriam Smith of West Columbia, South Carolina and Larry and Sallee Smith of Rome, Georgia; five, granddaughters and four great-grandchildren; brother, Martin Smith of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4, 2016, 11 O’clock AM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend David Keister officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Greg Murray, Hugh Scott, Travis King, Hunter Boyett, Jim Cook and Gary Lance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 367, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Mr. Vernon Smith.
Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Vernon Smith.
