Dr. Robert William Utterback passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 in hospice in Duluth, Georgia. He was the only child of Jeanie and Raymond Utterback of Dearborn, Michigan, where he was born on October 12, 1928. He graduated from Dearborn High School, and then worked his own way through his undergraduate and his dental studies at the University of Detroit. He served as a Captain in the United State Army, serving in Europe from 1955-1957.
Dr. Utterback moved with his family to Lexington, Kentucky in 1969 where he established a dental practice that he maintained until 2014. In total, he was active as a dentist for 60 years.
Dr. Utterback was also a life-long member of the Lions Club International. He served multiple terms as president of the Fayette Lions Club in Lexington and helped to raise donations for the many Lions Club philanthropies. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the University of Kentucky basketball team. He enjoyed fishing and hunting over the years as well.
In 2014, he relocated to Cumming, Georgia, to be closer to Jon and Chauna Utterback of Dahlonega. He made many new friends at both Highland Manor Senior Living and White Oaks at Lanier.
Dr. Utterback is survived by his two children and their spouses, Robyn (Dan) Deery of Florence, South Carolina and Jon (Chauna) Utterback of Dahlonega, Georgia. He is survived by five grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Deery, of Boston, Massachusetts, Daniel (Laura) Deery of Greenville, South Carolina, Rebecca (Thomas) Joyner of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Elisabeth Utterback of Dahlonega, Georgia, and Doug Utterback of Atlanta, Georgia. He also has two great-grandchildren, Adelaide and Emma Rose Deery.
There will be a private family memorial service.
