Margaret Rider Bates

            Margaret Rider Bates, age 73 of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

            Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Reverend Chad Dale and Reverend Cotton Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2016 and Friday, May 27, 2016 from 7:00-9:00pm both nights.

            Mrs. Bates was born April 27, 1943 in Toombs County, Georgia to Erma Mae and William Reece Rider. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Minnie Lee Gilstrap. She was a hair dresser for 48 years and a business owner of The Hair Place in Gainesville for 32 years. She was also an active member of East Hall Baptist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed the times spent and trips taken with them.

            Mrs. Bates is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jimmy Bates of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Bates Nolan (Todd) of Flowery Branch; daughter and son-in-law, Tanya Bates Hagwood (Jeff) of Gainesville; grandchildren, Taylor Clark, Shelby Clark, Reid Clark, Sarah Nolan; step-grandchildren, Jack Hagwood and Ashley Hagwood; sister, Dorothy Sayne of Gillsville; nephews, Ricky Sayne and Ronnie Sayne; nieces, Pat Dubnik, Carol Painter, Mary Jane Kinsey, Betty Ann Wilson and a number of great nieces and nephews.
