J. I. O’Shields

J. I. O’Shields, age 91, of Dunwoody, GA passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 17^th at 1PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Chaplain Donna Gunter will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 – 1PM at the funeral home.

J. I. is survived by his Daughter, Karen Douglas, Buford; Son and Daughter-In-Law, Rusty and Cathy O’Shields, Suwanee; Daughter, Mary Shepherd, Canton; Grandchildren, Kelli Petway and husband Jason, Jay O’Shields, Bonnie Rose Douglas, Katie Carl and husband Hunter, Joshua O’Shields, Adam Shepherd; Great Grandchildren, Annabella Petway, Kinsley Petway; Brother, Billy O’Shields; Special Companion, Gail Moulton; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

J. I. was a lifelong resident of the metro Atlanta area. He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Navy where he served as a Corpsman with the 4^th Marine Division. J. I. He retired from Lockheed-Martin in 1987 after a 36 year career with the company. J. I. enjoyed spending his retirement years traveling and riding his motorcycles all over the U.S. until the age of 85.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the professional and caring staff at Amedisys Hospice, whose compassion during this time was greatly appreciated.
