Martha Godfrey Moore, 82 died on May 13, 2016 at Dogwood Forest where she had resided for a number of years.
She was born on January 8, 1934 to Charles Edwin Cole and Ola Bell Cole Alford. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1953 and married her husband James Godfrey in 1953. They were members of St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street.
She was devoted to the Gainesville City School System serving in many capacities, chiefly as secretary to Principal Curtis Segars at Gainesville High School and later as secretary to Superintendent Alan Zubay. Many life long friendships were forged here.
Her family and their needs became her life's cause. She was especially dedicated to the care of her husband, James Godfrey during his long illness. Together they helped to form the Parkinson's Support Group at St. Paul United Methodist Church. After Mr. Godfrey's death, she was married to Curt Moore until his death in 2012. They were members of the First Baptist Church on Green Street.
Mrs. Moore was predeceased by her parents, husband of 49 years, James Richard Godfrey, and husband of 9 years, Robert Curtis Moore.
She is survived by her children, Jamie G. Stribling (Warren), Rick Godfrey (Susan), Patti Godfrey. Grandchildren, Kyle Stribling (Jennifer), Susanne Stribling Turner (Robert), Daniel Stribling (Carolyn), Josh Strickland (Jenny), Isaac Strickland (Hester), Jedidiah Godfrey, Brandy Godfrey, Rose Baker (Paul), Michael Brewer (Amanda), Scott Brewer (Amanda), and 11 great grandchildren, and her sister, Mary Cole Green.
Memorial services will be held Monday May 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church on Green Street. Dr. Bill Coates and Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate. The family will receive friends in the parlor at the church after the memorial service.
