James Thomas Minton, age 91 of Gainesville, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, May 16, 2016 at 8:00pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Reverend Phil Carpenter officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 10:00am in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Minton was born August 31, 1924 in LaFollette, Tennessee to Arthur Dennis Minton and Nettie Flora Lamarr Minton. He attended Wynn High School in Habersham, Tennessee and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was retired from Gainesville Stone Company and was a member of IBEW. Mr. Minton attended Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Charles Bernard Minton and Arthur Clay Minton and his sister, Fay Brooks.
Mr. Minton is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Hazel Minton of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Minton and Jeff Truh of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Keith Phagan of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Susan Minton of Flowery Branch; granddaughter and husband, Tiara and Jason Ferrell of Flowery Branch; grandsons, Cade Minton, Noah Minton and Ty Minton all of Flowery Branch; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Deanna, Joshua and Matthew Ferrell.
