Horace Baker III age 74 passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Barbara, and little dog, Dixie Lou, by his side on April 23, 2016 at his home in Banning, California.
He was born, February 17, 1942 to the late Horace Edgar, Jr. and Sarah Adams Baker all of Toccoa. He was also predeceased in death by a younger brother, Robert (Bobby) Kyle Baker; and mother-in-law,
June Schmidt.
Horace was a 1960 Graduate of Toccoa High School where he excelled in Basketball and football, and he continued to love sports, including NASCAR. He was an Alumni of the Toccoa High School Band where he was an excellent trumpeter. He grew up in First Baptist Church of Toccoa where he was a part of all activities, esp. music and playing solo trumpet. Horace had lived in Banning for four years and had retired from the trucking industry where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of the Navy Seal Team 2 during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Banning; children, Bobby (Audrie) Salsbury, of Redlands, and Mike (Jill) Salsbury, of Running Springs; sister, Ann Gardner (Francis), of Midland, Georgia; grandchildren, Logan (Spencer) Espalin, Seth Salsbury, Ashley (Kyle) Rose, Lizzy (Elizabeth) Graham, Nora (Ben) Zinn,
Brianna Salsbury and Sydney Salsbury; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Rose, Layla June Espalin and Ellie Rose; niece, Laura Gardner, of Georgia; nephew, Kyle Baker of Georgia; and dog, Dixie Lou. Local survivors include maternal cousins, Mrs. Marion (Mary Lee) Thomason and family, Al Thomason, Barbara Thomason Payne and Laura Thomason Biggers.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary and Crematory, Beaumont, CA, where a graveside Memorial Service will be held on May 16, 2016 at the National Military Cemetery in Riverside, California. ( www.weaver mortuary and crematory)
