Ravenel (Holloway) Haile

Ravenel (Holloway) Haile, 95, of Cumming, GA died on May 4, 2016 after being diagnosed with liver cancer on March 29..  Born in Summer Shade, KY she was the daughter of the late Herod and Lilly Holloway.  Her beloved husband, Hascal Haile and brothers, Walton, Elwin and Drexel Holloway also predeceased her.

Ravenel attended a one room, rural school and graduated from Gamaliel High School in 1936 at the age of 15.  She was married Hascal Haile on July 4, 1936 at the age of 16 and was a mother at 17.  She was the perfect helpmate for her husband in business – finishing his custom guitars. She was a self-taught artist who completed many pictures over the years for family and friends.

In 1988, Ravenel sold her home in Tompkinsville, KY following her husband’s death in 1986 and moved to Columbia, TN to be near her daughter, Ramona Cherry. She was active in the Graymere Church of Christ in Columbia and a volunteer at the Maury County Hospital.  In 2006, she moved into an assisted living facility in Columbia and, when her health declined, moved to an assisted living in Cumming, GA near her son, John.  She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and, especially, her great-grandchildren.  Ravenel was most described by her caregivers and those who knew her as a very sweet, kind lady.

She is survived by her children, Ramona Cherry of Columbia, TN and John Haile of Ball Ground, GA; grandchildren, Linda Dixon of Franklin, TN, Anna Harrison of Decatur, GA, Mary Dodd of Milton, GA and John Haile, Jr. of Sneads Ferry, NC; and six, great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 7 at the Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY.  Interment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tompkinsville.  The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Strode Funeral Home.
