Mr. Randolph Fred Northcutt Jr., age 84 of 140 Currahee Place, Toccoa, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
The son of the late Randolph Fred Sr. and Annelle Williamson Northcutt, he was born August 19, 1931 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived most of his life. He was a 1949 graduate of Toccoa High School and attended the University of Georgia on a track scholarship. He was a GHSA four-time district champion and a two-time state champion in track, which earned him the nicknames of “Fast Freddie” and “Fireball Freddie.” He was an outstanding athlete, not only in track, but in football and baseball as well. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars. He was active in the Fred Northcutt and Son Funeral Home in Toccoa and later was owner and operator of Northcutt Flowerland. He also was employed with the Georgia Department of Labor and later retired, after 19 years of service, from Coats and Clark, Inc., as personnel director. In his retirement, Fred refined his skills as a master woodworker and was an avid fisherman and reader. His sharp wit and sense of humor brought laughter and joy to all of those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret Ann Jones Northcutt and their four children, daughter Irinda Lundeen and her husband Bill of Woodstock, Georgia, son Ken Northcutt and his wife Lisa of Alpharetta, Georgia, daughter Julie Porter of Roswell, Georgia and daughter Kerrie Glass and her husband Phillip of Woodstock, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Jarrett Northcutt, Lauren (and Glenn) Schumann, Alex (and Morgan) Lundeen, Taylor Glass, Campbell Porter, Ramsay Glass and Hampton Porter; two great-grandchildren, Landon Lundeen and Asher Lundeen; three brothers-in-law, Jabez (and Virginia) Jones, Jack (and Barbara) Jones and Bruce (and Phyllis) Childs; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. John Brown officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Georgia National Guard Honor Guard and the VFW Post 4346 following the service.
