Funeral Service are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 23, 2016 at Ward's Funeral Home Chapel for Sybil Marion Norris Smith, age 83 of Gainesville. The Rev. Scott Wilson, Michael Ferguson and Billy Flynn will officiate. Interment will follow at Living Mission United Methodist Church Cemetery 7404 Belton Bridge Road Lula, GA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith passed away Thursday April 21, 2016 at New Horizon Lanier Park Nursing Home.
Mrs. Smith was born October 30, 1932 in Hall County to the late Jim David “J.D.” Norris and Ollie Wade Norris. She was united in marriage to John “Johnny” Grady Smith on October 16, 1954. They were married for 61 years.
Sybil was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Family and friends were Sybil's passion and delight. She enjoyed gardening, leisure weekend travel, bingo, and singing gospel hymns. She was a Director of Operations; being on call 24/7 and required exceptional negotiation ability with imterpersonal skills. The job was all encompassing......she was a Homemaker. She was preceded in death by her son, James Richard Smith in 1990, brother, James Norris, sisters, Joyce “Snooks” Norris in 2015, Eloise Norris in 1933, and her beloved dog “Baby”.
Survivors include, husband John “Johnny” Grady Smith, Gainesville, sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Shirley Smith, David and Dianna Smith, granddaughters and spouses, Tauna and Demetric Rucker, Jennifer and Ken Drake, grandsons and spouses, Shane and Rachel Smith, Derek and Karen Smith, great grandsons, Aaron Cheatham, Kirkland Cheatham, Bailey Smith, Michael Helms, Mason Smith, Tristan Drake, great granddaughters, Makenzie Cheatham, Alicia Rucker, Chantevia Rucker, Adilyn Smith, great great-grandchild, Nijah Harrison; brother and sister-in-law, Wiley and Lorene Norris, sister and brother-in-law, Paulene “Wintzy” and Tommy Adkins; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Ferguson, Eunice “June” Smith and Nell Norris all of Hall County.
