Sam W. Favor, III

Obituary Date: Friday, April 1, 2016

Sam W. Favor, III of Lilburn GA, passed away following an extended illness on April 1, 2016. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, April 17th 2016 at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel at 3pm.Visitation with family is Saturday April 16th 2016 beginning at 3:30 to 5:30. Rev. David Moon of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Tucker GA will officiate the service. Sam leaves behind his wife of 41 years Karen Wellborn Favor, his daughter, Elizabeth Favor Barrett, son in law Michael Barrett and grandson Brody Nicholas Barrett of Buford GA; son Andrew Kyle Favor, daughter in law Kate Wolters Favor and grandsons Jackson Kyle Favor and Andrew Maxwell Favor of Alpharetta, GA; and daughter Bryn Favor Smith, son in law Noah Smith and grandsons Gavin John Smith and Garrett Samuel Smith of Ooltewah TN; his cousin Don Jackson and wife Carole of Flowery Branch, GA; and father in law O.F. Wellborn Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA. He is also survived by brother in law, Chris Wellborn and wife Kim Wellborn of Flowery Branch, GA; brother in law Kevin Wellborn of Covington, GA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sam was born in Trion GA and grew up in Augusta, GA. He graduated from Butler High School in 1966 and Augusta State University, Bachelors of Business Administration in 1970. He lived in the Stone Mountain- Lilburn area since 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents Sam W. Favor Jr. and Annie R. Moon Favor and his sister Susan Favor. Sam was a little league baseball coach for Mtn. Park Athletic Association and belonged to the Mtn. Park Masonic Lodge #729 F&AM and the Gwinnett Shrine Club. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He has attended the Masters Golf Tournament every year since he was about five years old. He loved reading especially history and the Civil War. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve at Ft. Gordon, GA. Sam was retired from the telecommunications industry where he was highly respected by co-workers and customers. He worked in field service, installation, sales and management with Southern Bell, AT&T, ADC Telecom, and Telco Systems. Sam was a long standing member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Augusta, GA and locally attended Lucerne Baptist Church. Friends and family are urged to share their stories and memories of Sam for the behalf of his grandsons and it would be Sam’s wish to establish a fund in order to contribute to their future college education, which was most important to him.
