Verbon E. Wood

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 12, 2016

  Mr. Verbon E. Wood age 77 of Gainesville passed away on Monday April 11, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness.

                Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday April 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Gainesville Chapel with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Clack Stubbs and Reverend Jason Lester will officiate. The Family will receive friends on Wednesday April 13, 2016 from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

                Mr. Wood was born on December 10, 1938 in Blountsville, Alabama to the late Adrion Wood and Annie Mae Wood.

                Mr. Wood was raised in Blount County, Alabama and moved to Georgia in 1970. He was a 1956 Graduate of Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Alabama and a 1961 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He served six years with the Alabama National Guard. He worked for many years in the poultry industry in Alabama and Georgia. He last worked at ZF Industries in Gainesville. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Gainesville. He was a loving and caring husband, Father, and Grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man. He will be missed greatly by family and friends.

                He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lowell Wood. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Sue Wood of Gainesville, daughter, Sally Jones and son-in-law, Brian Jones of Flowery Branch, son, Eric Wood and daughter-in-law, Kelly Wood of Buford, son, Kevin Wood and daughter-in-law, Michelle Wood of Gainesville. He dearly loved his five grandchildren, Emily Jones of Flowery Branch, Jackson and Allison Wood of Gainesville, Ethan and Evan Wood of Buford. Also three Step-grandchildren, Caitlyn Salyers and husband, Bryant, Cody Fowler, Ashley Fowler and step-great grandson, Bentlee Salyers. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Walter Jones and sister-in-law, Helon Jones of Clinton, Arkansas, three nieces and two nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

                Flowers are accepted but those who wish may make contributions to Mr. Woods Grandson “Jackson Wood Cancer Fund” at SunTrust Bank 355 Shallowford Road Gainesville, Ga 30504.
