Edward James McGarry

Mr.  Edward James  McGarry, 77, of Gainesville, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016.

Mr. McGarry is an Eagle Scout. He joined the Cub Scouts at the age of 9 and became an Eagle Scout at the age of 13. Mr. McGarry was a Boy Scout Leader in Mumford, TN, Troop 66, Portsmouth RI, Troop 50, New London War College Troop, Gainesville, GA Troop 221 and served as a Cub Scout Leader in Auburn GA.

Mr. McGarry retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Mr. McGarry worked as an instructor from 1980 to 1985 at Lanier Technical Institute teaching Industrial Electricity at which time he went to work for General Motors as an instructor in Robotics from 1985 to 1988 with his final teaching position being at Gwinnett Technical Institute from 1988 to 1999.

After retiring from teaching Ed and Madonna fulfilled their lifelong dream to become fulltime RV’ers traveling 15 years through the United States of America, visiting all 50 states, parts of Canada and Mexico.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Madonna L. McGarry; 5 children, Tom McGarry, Bob and Dyann McGarry, Madonna and Lee Webb, Joanie and Doug Cagle, Alan and Stephanie McGarry; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Bob and Sandy McGarry; sister, Anne Schmalzl.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Rev. Jaime Barona will officiate. Interment will follow in Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder, GA. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
