Litton DeJarnette

Obituary Date: Thursday, March 31, 2016

Litton DeJarnette lost his courageous battle with Leukemia, Thursday, March 7, 2016. Litton was 75, born September 24, 1940 to the late Mary & Jim deJarnette. Litton and his wife, Karoline, moved to Dahlonega from Atlanta 15 years ago where he built a beautiful home and loved the lake. He was a master wood worker, a handyman who could fix anything, a problem solver who loved complex puzzles and a practical joker with a quick wit and keen sense of humor.

In his youth, Litton was an Eagle Scout who graduated from North Fulton High. He attended the Citadel in SC then transferred to Georgia Tech where he was a member of Beta Theta Phi Fraternity and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. He retired in 2006, after 15 years of being a Partner with Principal Environmental Company.

Litton had many accomplishments, community involvements & friends. He was a past President and Life Member of the GA Water & Pollution Control Association. A member of the Dahlonega Sunrise Rotary and served as a Board member & Treasurer of the Lumpkin Co. Literacy Coalition. He volunteered at the Holly Theatre in Dahlonega and for the Dahlonega High School Chain Gang for football games. His letter to the Dahlonega Nugget newspaper helped spearhead the installation of defibrillators in every building of the University of North Georgia which recently helped save a man’s life. 

Litton was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Cumming. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert. His surviving family, whom he loved deeply, include his wife Karoline, his daughter, Michelle and son-in-law, Bruce Greene, Jr. (with whom he loved to fish).  Survivors also include his grandchildren, Mary Baynes Greene and Bruce Greene,III who knew him as “Poppy”.

Visitation will be @ Dahlonega Funeral Home on Tuesday 04/12/16 10am-12pm, 20 Gibson Rd, Dahlonega, GA 30533 followed by a 2pm Memorial service at Christ The King Lutheran Church 1125 Bettis-Tribble Gap Rd Cumming, GA 30040.
