William T. Gilstrap, 86, of Gainesville, GA (and formerly of Cumming) died on April 4, 2016. Born in Atlanta, GA he was the son of the late Rev. Thomas W. Gilstrap and Flonnie Nation Gilstrap.
Bill retired from Allstate Insurance after 35 years and then worked as a school bus driver for Fulton County. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bill was a long time, active member of First Baptist Church of Cumming. He served as a Deacon and Superintendent of the Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Roswell. Bill volunteered at North Fulton Hospital for 10 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Maxine Gilstrap of Gainesville, GA; children, Billy (Montez) Gilstrap of Mobile, AL, Susan Gilstrap (Dan) Johnson of Calhoun, GA, Donna Gilstrap (Clifton) Hastings of Gainesville, GA and Tommy Gilstrap of Cumming, GA; brother, Rev. Robert E. (Hazel) Gilstrap of Cleburne, TX; 8 much-loved grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and a loving extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 8, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Cumming. A private interment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 7 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
