Dr. Theodore “Ted” Robinson passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Gainesville, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 8, 2016 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel with interment to follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. Reverend Shon Peppers will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the funeral home.
Ted was born on February 23, 1933 in Hurricane, LA and grew up in Claiborne Parish, mostly Homer. Upon graduation from Homer High School. He attended the University of Chicago on a scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He earned another bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University (LSU), a medical degree from LSU, New Orleans, and a post-doctorate degree in Industrial Medicine from the University of Cincinnati in 1966.
Ted married Dina in 1965, settling in Baton Rouge with his young family in 1966. He worked for Ethyl Corporation as Assistant Medical Director until 1977, when he moved his growing family to Gainesville, Georgia to serve as Medical Director of Chicopee Corporation, a division of Johnson and Johnson.
He is remembered for his early love of gadgets and woodwork. As a youth, Ted read ‘every book in the Homer, Louisiana Library’ and continued that rate of reading his entire life. He wrote database programs and for his first personal computers. He was active in the Occupational Medical Association, Chicopee Retirement Association, Gainesville Rotary, the LSU Alumni Association and was a documented member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Horace G, and Eula Taylor Robinson of Homer and Baton Rouge, his sister and brother-in-law Doris R. and Tom Ford of Breckinrigdge, TX, his brother and sister-in-law Horace C. and Lillian M. Robinson, of Baton Rouge, and his brother and sister-in-law, Gene C. Robinson and Elaine Gruenemeier Robinson of Baton Rouge.
He was married to his wife Dina Fidler Robinson for 51 years. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Theodore Wesley Robinson and Jill Forcier Robinson of Gainesville, his daughter, Laura Ellen Robinson of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, and his daughter and son-in-law, Alison Robinson Styring and Michael William Lamont of Olympia, Washington. He dearly loved his eight grandchildren, Eric Daniel and Megan Daniel, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia; Madeline Robinson, Hank Robinson, and Vivian Robinson, of Gainesville, Georgia, and Benjamin Lamont, Abby Lamont and Emma Lamont, of Olympia, Washington. He adored and was adored by many nieces and nephews.
