Barbara West

Barbara West, 88, of Dawson County, Georgia, passed away Thursday March 17, 2016.  She grew up in Atlanta and Chattanooga.  Her parents were Alberta Louise and Noah B. Newman.  She attended  Chattanooga  High School and University of Chattanooga where she belonged to Phi Mu sorority.

Married to David J. West in 1947, she was preceded in death by him and four of her sons; David E. West, Douglas N. West, Richard Alan West, and Jeffery D. West.

Her surviving children are Pamela West Mayer, Mark Wade West, and Cynthia Louise West.  Her grandchildren are Jennifer Mayer Kobres, Spencer Anthony Smith, Mathew Brian Mayer, Kristine Ann West, and William Preston West.  Great-grandchildren are Christian Kobres, Jasmine Kobres, Mackenzie Smith, and Summer Smith.  Known by friends as well as family as “Mama”, her sweet disposition and patience was cherished.  She will be missed.

A 3 PM  service for the celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the home of Pam and Doug Mayer.  Rev. Frank Colladay, her longtime friend and chaplain, will speak along with friends and family.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s research would be appreciated.
