Angus Waldo (Wally) Sowell III

Obituary Date: Sunday, March 27, 2016

Alexander Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Angus Waldo ‘Wally” Sowell III, age 70 of Clarkesville. Mr. Sowell passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm, Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. Interment will be held 11:00am, Friday, April 1, 2016 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs. Mr. Sowell was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 22, 1945 to the late Angus Waldo Sowell II and Jane Smith Sowell. He graduated North Druid HillS High School, shortly after,he joined the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam,. It was there where he would served as a PJ Sgt aboard a Jolly Green Giant, earning him both the Silver Star and a Purple Heart among other medals He also serve with the retrieval teams for the Apollo 11 and Apollo 13 missions. Following his military service, Mr. Sowell enrolled in Brenau College and later Truett McConnell College earning Masters Degree in Business and Finance and Accounting. Later he would work in the Banking Industry and teach at both Brenau College and Truett McConnell College. He had a love of boats and boating and would later own a boat dealership in Fort Walton Beach,FL, which a lifelong dream and later would work with several boat dealerships in both Florida and Georgia.
His family and friends will remember him as a hardworking family man who, later in life , enjoyed watching NASCAR and annually attending drag racing with his family

He is survived by his wife, Sandie Sowell of Clarkesville; daughters, Alethea Tolbert (Brandon) of Clarkesville, Joni Bayles ( Vince) of Maryville,TN; sons, Angus Waldo Sowell IV (Kari) of Ava, MS, Daniel Sowell (Jessica) of Clarkesville and John Leslie of Hollywood. Mrs. Sowell is also survived by his eleven grandchildren as well as his sister,Jan Belyeu of Camilla, GA.
The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, March 31, 2016 beginning at 12 Noon.
