Meldagonde H. Giles

Meldagonde H. Giles, age 87, of Buford, GA passed away on March 19, 2016. Mrs. Giles passed away peacefully in her sleep at Silverleaf Nursing Home. Mrs. Giles was born in Marseille, France, March 18, 1929. Her parents were Hildegarde Hamilton, a famous landscape painter and Hobart Ryland, a writer and Professor at The University of Kentucky. Meldagonde was married three times, her first husband: Harry Mack Hughes, second: Henry Hughes and 3rd: Red Giles. She is survived by her brother, Hume Hamilton, Fort Lauderdale, FL.; daughter Diane Hughes and son-in-law, Roy Coker, Atlanta, GA; daughter Debbie Hughes Erickson and son-in-law Dean Erickson, Buford, GA; daughter-in-law,  Eva Hughes, Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren: Chrystal Hughes, Jason Hughes, Michael Coker. Mrs. Giles spent much of her life remembering her childhood of traveling the world with her famous mother. One of her most interesting moments was leaving France in the middle of the night when Hitler’s troops occupied the city they were visiting. She had brief training as a medical receptionist and later in life she helped her second husband run a trucking business.  She moved to Buford GA in 1976 and lived there until her passing.  She was a member of the Buford Senior Citizens at the Buford Senior Center, starting out as a volunteer and continued on as a member.  She was a member of McEver Road United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 25, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.            .
