Homer Monroe Colston, age 89, of Demorest, Georgia, went to be with The Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2016 following an extended illness.
Mr. Colston was born on July 24, 1926 in Demorest, Georgia to the late William Monroe and Violet Forrester Colston. He attended New Bridge Baptist Church. Mr. Colston was a United States Army World War II Veteran having served in The Occupation of Italy. Prior to his marriage, Mr. Colston was involved in the automotive industry in Detroit, MI. After marriage, Mr. Colston moved back to Demorest to begin his lifelong love of farming. Also, Mr. Colston was involved in The Route Petroleum Distribution. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Mae Fain Colston; brothers, Floyd Colston, Claude Colston, Ray Colston, Hoyt Colston, Chester Colston; grandson, Jonathan Hunt. Mr. Colston was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his daughter, Brenda C. Hunt, of Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Johnnie Yearwood, of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Beverly Colston, of Demorest; son, Doug Colston, of Demorest; grandchildren and spouses, Brandon and Crystal Hunt, Wesley and Mary Colston, Miranda and Terry Eyring, Jesse and Felicia Colston, Kimberly and Brandon Lovell, Jessica and Chad Hunt-Ralston, Gina Hunt, widow of Jonathan; great grandchildren, Ava Colston, Jayln Colston, Nicholas Hunt, Colston Hunt, Jonathan Noah Hunt, and Wiley Colston.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. W.A. Jenkins and Rev. Anthony Shore officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army, Rabun County DAV Post #15, the Grant-Reeves V.F.W. Post 7720, and the American Legion Post # 84.
The Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday March 22, 2015 at the funeral home.
