Mary Inez Thurmond

Mrs. Inez Thurmond passed away on Sunday in her home following an extended illness.

Born in Hall County, she was the daughter of Harold and Cassie Whelchel.

Mrs. Thurmond was employed with Northeast Georgia Medical Center where she worked as a switchboard operator and at the information desk for 40 plus years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Cassie Whelchel, sisters, Dorotha Roper, Louise Clark; brothers, Perry Whelchel, Buster Whelchel, Leroy Whelchel and Dennis Whelchel.

Mrs. Thurmond is survived by her husband, Heyward Thurmond; son and daughter in law, Tim and Anita Thurmond; daughter and son in law, Andrea and Bob Branch; grandchildren, Jennifer Farrell and husband Brad of Cumming, Mandy Mathis and husband Carson of Roswell, Justin Branch of Murrayville, Andy and Cassie Thurmond of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Luke and Eden Farrell of Cumming; sisters, Robbie Stephens of Murrayville, Evelyn Brock of Gillsville; brother and sister in law, Buddy and June Whelchel of Gainesville and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers Missy and Brittany Watson of Dahlonega, Elaine Jarrard of Cleveland and Janna Lowe of Commerce.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
